Herve Chapelier
Herve Chapelier was born in Biarritz France, a resort on the Atlantic where he started surfing at age seventeen and discovered his first passion. He later decided to study in the United States and returned soon after to Europe to start the Herve Chapelier brand.
Since 1976, Herve Chapelier bags have adopted the characteristic pyramid shape, making all of these “Made in France” bags clearly a Chapelier at a glance. Now, however, these bags are not just known for their design but also their durability. Making use of nylon (rarely used at the time) and the sturdy saddle stitch, he created very durable bags.
Beginning in the 1980s with a duffel bag, Herve Chapelier continued to fascinate students with his colorful day packs and later introduced the current popular pyramid type tote. Now with pouches and weekend bags, Herve Chapelier continues to develop bags and accessories for today’s fashion and value-conscious yet diverse consumer.
Herve Chapelier’s innovations continue today, creating cotton bags, a deluxe line featuring durable synthetic leather and fine quality towels. Starting in Europe, its network of sales expanded to America, Asia and beyond.
